About Us

The CWB is organized into four standing committees, an Executive Committee and an Oversight Committee. Ad-hoc working groups and sub-committees are formed on an as-needed basis; the CWB currently has several additional work groups, task forces, and/or sub-committees.

Mission

The mission of the Chicago Workforce Board (CWB) is to support the vision of Chicago as a world-class city by ensuring the creation of a workforce development system that sustains economic growth and competitiveness by meeting the needs of employers for qualified workers and expanding employment opportunities for Chicagoland residents.

The Board provides a forum where business, labor, education, government, community-based organizations and other stakeholders work together to develop strategies that can address the supply and demand challenges confronting the local workforce.

Background

The Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 requires the creation of workforce investment boards to be responsible for local workforce development systems. The CWB began operating as a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation in September 2000.

Membership

The membership composition of the board is required to be at least 51% business representation with the balance of members coming from organized labor, economic development agencies, education, mandatory One-Stop Career Center partner agencies, service providers, civic organizations and other stakeholders.
